Leigh Nicol shortlisted at Women of the Future Awards

In February 2021 I listened to a podcast hosted by @eliteinnerperformance where @LeighNicol talked about being the victim of the most evil of online crimes, intimate image abuse. She was talking about a time, two years previously, when she believed her life was over. I have acted for many victims of this horrendous crime and everything she said rang true. So I got her phone number from a former teammate and I called her.

@FraserFranks and I had offered her a job within a week or so. The rest, as they say, is history.

The strength she has shown, the compassion for others, the determination not to be a victim but to be a part of the positive change in our culture, has been awe-inspiring.

She’s been on Sky Sports, BBC, ITV, German TV, podcasts (including Football Journeys), she’s worked with the Ministry of Justice, Slateford, Sportradar, the Revenge Porn Helpline, the police, Meta and others, she’s given evidence to the Law Commission. She’s spoken at schools, to football clubs, to first team squads in the WSL and in the Premier League (including a spontaneous round of applause at @brentfordfc).

And all of this she combines with still playing for @cpfc_w and was their PFA Community Champion (deservedly) last season.

The “football girl” from Motherwell has come a long way … and this week we found out that she’s been shortlisted for the 2022 Women of the Future Awards @womenoffuture sponsored by @avivauk.
