Running the Silverstone half marathon with Shaun Whiter
When Shaun Whiter asked me if I would run the Silverstone half marathon with me in support of road safety charity IAM Roadsmart, there was only one answer.
In 2016 Shaun, a fit young man preparing for a pre-season with Newmarket Town FC, went to help his friend change a tyre at a road side.
Whilst he was stood at the back of his car he was hit by a dangerous driver, who then drove off and left him and his friend Joey Abbs for dead.
Miraculously Shaun survived that night but he lost both of his legs. The physical and mental challenge that followed was immense but it has been remarkable. Fitness has long been a passion of his, it saved his life that night, and he continues to set himself physical challenges including completing the London Marathon last year.
In 2023 Shaun started working with Fraser Franks and me at B5 Consultancy (https://www.b5consultancy.com/) following a passion project of educating young sportsmen and women on the perils of dangerous driving, coping with adversity and flipping your narrative when life takes you by surprise. It’s been one of the privileges of my life to do that work with him.
One of the stories we tell is about two young boys (Arron and Ben Peak) who were killed on their way to Silverstone by a footballer who was drunk driving. So, when IAM Roadsmart approached us about running the half marathon at run fest Silverstone on 23rd November 2025 it was the perfect opportunity to raise more awareness about the consequences of dangerous driving.
What is all the more incredible, and moving, is that we have the full support of Amanda Peak, Arron and Ben’s mother, who has not only given her blessing for us to run with images of Arron and Ben on our shirts but will also be there cheering us on. You can support the run at the link below:
