Telegraph — Rugby players among athletes becoming prime targets for social media ‘sextortion’

In December I spoke with the Telegraph’s Rugby correspondent, Dan Scholfield, about the worrying rise in online crime and how it is impacting young sportspeople.

I discussed one of the key rules if you do fall victim to online crime — do not pay a blackmailer: “If you give them £300 then they will be back for £500 next week”. Victims should remove all means by which the blackmailer can contact them. If the perpetrator can’t contact you, they can’t continue to blackmail you, and they will most likely move on to the next poor victim.
